This blog is my attempt to connect directly with the people of Essex. I hope that it will become a forum for discussion and debate around many of the issues and challenges facing our county. In a sense this is as much your blog as it is mine - so make the most of it and send me your thoughts and comments. In return, I hope to be able to get across a little of what I and the rest of my colleagues in County Hall do; how we are trying to make Essex a better place to live and work, how we are trying to improve the services we offer to you and how we are attempting to promote Essex, locally, nationally and internationally.

Guest Blogger - Cllr Tracey Chapman, Cabinet Member for Environment and Waste
It is great to see that Essex residents are really getting behind the messages of reduce, reuse and recycle. Figures released today by Essex County Council show that the amount of household waste recycled and composted across the county hit an impressive high of 38% - up 4% from last year (06/07). What is even more inspiring is that recycling rates are up across all authorities in Essex showing that everyone is making a genuine effort to recycle more household waste than ever before. Recycling and composing over 262,000 tonnes of household waste is a fantastic achievement and one that we should all be proud of.
